Courtesy Call on Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs ONISHI by the participants of the Program for Global Human Resource Development for Peacebuilding and Development

On November 4, 24 participants of the Program for Global Human Resource Development for Peacebuilding and Development paid a courtesy call on Mr. ONISHI Yohei, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan. The overview of the courtesy call is as follows:

  1. At the outset, Parliamentary Vice-Minister ONISHI welcomed the Primary Course participants from various countries and regions with diverse backgrounds and expressed his respect for their willingness to engage in peacebuilding and development in a situation where challenges in the international society are intertwined with each other. The Parliamentary Vice-Minister also encouraged the participants to learn various skills necessary for working on the front lines of peacebuilding and development, as well as to share each other's experiences and use them as a source of wisdom leading to conflict resolution.
  2. In response, the participants of the program appreciated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan for holding the program. Furthermore, they expressed their motivation and expectation regarding this program.
  3. In closing, the Parliamentary Vice-Minister expressed his hope that the participants will play an active role in the field of peacebuilding and development in the future.

(Reference) The Program for Global Human Resource Development for Peacebuilding and Development

(1) Based on the eight-year results of “The Program for Human Resource Development in Asia for Peacebuilding”, which was implemented from JFY2007 to JFY2014 with the aim of fostering civilian specialists who can work in the field of peacebuilding, “The Program for Global Human Resource Development for Peacebuilding and Development” was newly launched in FY2015. This project is contracted to 亚色视频, and the United Nations Volunteer program (UNV) is in charge of overseas assignment.

(2) This year, the participants have already started the course online from October 12th and today, the 4th, they started domestic training. From the 7th, They will move to Hiroshima and will continue the course till the 30th.

(3) The 12 non-Japanese participants are from the following countries, regions, and organizations: Cambodia, East Timor, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, Guatemala, Ecuador, Armenia, Palestine, Iraq, Cameroon, South Sudan and African Union Commission (AUC)
