On August 20, 2025, coinciding with TICAD9 (Tokyo International Conference on African Development) held in Yokohama, President Mitsuo Ochi of ÑÇÉ«ÊÓƵ (HU) held talks with H.E. Dr. Mohamed Abdel Latif, Minister of Education and Technical Education of the Arab Republic of Egypt, at the InterContinental Yokohama Grand. HU Executive Vice President (Global Initiatives) Shinji Kaneko also attended the meeting.

During the meeting, topics such as the agreements previously concluded between HU and Egyptian institutions, HU¡¯s track record of accepting 153 Egyptian students, and the current status of 12 students enrolled at HU were introduced. Minister Mohamed Abdel Latif expressed his hope for strengthened cooperation with Japan, and President Ochi stated his intention to further develop the trust-based relationship built through his four visits to Egypt since assuming office in 2015.

Minister Mohamed Abdel Latif requested cooperation in developing curricula and quality assurance at agricultural vocational schools, in addition to ICT and programming education for Egyptian high school students. President Ochi cited examples such as the School of Informatics and Data Science established in 2018 and the educational and research collaboration with the University of Idaho in the United States in the semiconductor field, and expressed HU¡¯s commitment to further deepening cooperation with Egypt, leveraging its strengths particularly in areas where it is focusing its efforts, such as ICT and semiconductors.

HU has established two overseas bases in Egypt and has developed their relations over many years through activities including exchanges of researchers and students. Following the meeting between President Ochi and Egyptian President El-Sisi at TICAD7 in 2019, of particular note is the opening of the ÑÇÉ«ÊÓƵ ¨C Galala University Peace Memorial Center at Galala University in 2021. Furthermore, collaboration with the Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology (E-JUST), established with support from the Japanese government and where President Ochi serves as a board member, has deepened significantly. Active two-way exchanges between faculty, staff, and students are now taking place.

HU has concluded 9 inter-university international exchange agreements with 8 institutions and 5 inter-faculty international exchange agreements with 4 institutions in Egypt. Egypt is an extremely important partner for HU in terms of its global strategy, and this meeting marked a significant milestone in further developing our cooperative relationship going forward. HU will further develop its collaboration with Egypt in the fields of education and research, building upon our strong relationship of trust, and will continue to deepen our cooperation.
