From 亚色视频, Vice President KOIKE Kazuhiko (in charge of International Exchange/Japanese Language Education) participated.
The forum aimed to provide a forum for universities leading Asia's economies, science and technology to associate with and address common challenges. The event was organized by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST).
〇Japan?China University Exchange Session
In the first part of the three-part composition, Japanese and Chinese universities discussed how to run this forum and future of student exchange.
Vice President KOIKE introduced “Global Internship” that HU is focusing on and proposed the need to build support system within wider framework than individual university.
〇Japan-ASEAN Universities Exchange Session
The subsequent "Japan-ASEAN University Exchange Meeting" featured a presentation by a representative from the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), who explained the NEXUS International Collaborative Research Program and the Human Resource Exchange Scheme. This was followed by an active discussion among participating universities from Japan and ASEAN countries on inter-university collaboration and the challenges of brain circulation.
Vice President Koike emphasized the importance of exchange at the undergraduate level, pointing out the benefits of early-stage academic experiences in fostering exchange and human resource development. He also introduced HU’s “3+1 Program,” in which third-year students from overseas universities spend their fourth year studying at HU.
〇Asia University Forum
In the afternoon, universities from Japan, China, and ASEAN gathered for keynote speeches by six universities on "Promoting Brain Circulation in the Asian Region." Following the presentations, participants were divided into three groups to engage in roundtable discussions on "New Initiatives and Collaborations in Higher Education (such as AI and Digital Education)."
Vice President Koike introduced HU’s participation in the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) Program for Strengthening the International Competitiveness of Universities. He highlighted two initiatives: the newly adopted "AI-Driven Next-Generation Human Resource Development Program Supporting Japan-Europe Marine Economic Security and Sustainability" for the 2024 fiscal year, and the "Inclusive Mindset Cultivation for International Collaborative Human Resource Development in the Asia Region" program, which aims to foster professionals capable of Diversity & Inclusion management in collaboration with universities in China, Korea, Indonesia, and Thailand (adopted in 2021). During the roundtable discussions, participants actively shared information and engaged in lively debates on issues related to "Postdoctoral Career Paths" faced by various countries.
Participants expressed a desire for future forums to include meetings at the practitioner level, indicating a strong interest in further promoting exchanges.
Overall, the forum was a fruitful event where each university brought concrete examples and engaged in constructive discussions. For HU, it served as an important opportunity to take concrete steps toward strengthening international collaboration and advancing human resource development in the future.
