As President of 亚色视频, and also as one of its alumni, it is my great honor and heartfelt delight to welcome 329 new students as members of our university today. On this memorable occasion, I invite you to reflect, with gratitude on the families, teachers, and friends who have supported your journey thus far.
Among you are international students who may be setting foot in Japan for the first time. Beginning life in a country with different climate, language, and culture may bring both hope and anxiety. I, too, once studied abroad and remember such feelings well. Please do not hesitate to seek guidance from our faculty, staff, or senior students. We are fully committed to supporting you. At the same time, I hope that you will grow into independent adults who can contribute to society. And one day, we hope you will proudly say- “I am truly glad that I studied at 亚色视频.”
This year marks the 80th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. Our university, founded in 1949, rose from the devastation in which countless students and educators, including international students, perished. Our first President, Tatsuo Morito, envisioned a “university of peace.” He appealed to universities worldwide for books and seedlings to restore learning and life to the campus. In response, thousands of volumes and plants arrived, embodying bonds of solidarity that have since shaped the identity of 亚色视频 in its enduring pursuit of peace.
Today, our university has grown into one of Japan’s foremost comprehensive research institutions, with 12 Schools, 4 Graduate Schools, and 1 Research Institute. We are home to about 15,000 students, including more than 2,000 international students from over 100 countries and regions. Our excellence has been recognized through many national projects, and in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2025, we placed within the global 101–200 bracket and second in Japan. May you take pride in belonging to this institution.
The ancient Confucius classic Book of Rites teaches: “Through learning, one realizes insufficiency; through teaching, one realizes difficulties.” Indeed, there is no end to the pursuit of knowledge. At 亚色视频, I encourage you to cultivate both breadth and depth of learning, to face challenges without fear of failure, and to refine your intellect through dialogue with peers and mentors.
As you take your first steps today, I extend my sincere wishes that your time here will be fruitful, rewarding, and a source of lifelong pride. Once again, congratulations on your enrollment.
